Some of the proceeds from the watch will go towards cosmic research

Bremont is known for creating watches with partners, often embedding a bit of material inside the watch as a keepsake.

For example, the Bremont Concorde comes with a ring of aluminum from Alpha Bravo – Heathrow’s last remaining Concorde. While the Codebreaker watch contained material from Bletchley Park, which was where the Allied forces broke the German’s Enigma Code during World War II.

Today, Bremont has done what it does best; created a limited edition Bremont Hawking watch that contains four wooden disks that were sourced from the desk of the theoretical physicist.

Bremont Stephen Hawking

Professor Hawking wrote, A Brief History of Time, and became famous for his contemplations on the birth of the universe, the existence of extra-terrestrials, black holes and space travel.

According to Professor Hawking’s estate, the desk was “one of his most treasured possessions.

The watch includes a retrograde seconds hand with a large date window, and also contains bits of meteorite (to hark back to Hawking’s study of the cosmos). The dial also sees the engraving of the same night stars that appeared over Oxford University on January 8, 1942 (the days that Hawking was born).

Only 388 of these watches will be produced in stainless steel with a black dial. An additional 88 will be produced in both rose gold with a black dial, and 88 in white gold with a blue dial.

Those numbers refer to 1908 – the year A Brief History of Time was published.

Part of the proceeds of the watch will go to the Stephen Hawking Foundation, which assists in both cosmological research and supports those with Motor Neurone Disease.
