The US$884,800 timepiece is made from rock from the Himalayas, and water from the North and South Poles

Jacob & Co.’s Astronomia Everest is a US$884,800 timepiece that comes with a piece of the world’s tallest mountain inside it, along with a trip to the Himalayas.

The watch – which is based on Jacob & Co.’s Astronomia Sky – was worn by Swedish explorer Johan Ernst Nilson, who summited Everest last year. It has been custom built to withstand altitudes of 6,000 meters, as well as temperatures down to -30 centigrade.

Jacob & Co. partnered with the explorer to highlight the rugged beauty of the world’s tallest mountain, as well as highlight the impact of climate change.

“Raising awareness about the dangers facing our planet is important,” said Jacob Arabo, founder of Jacob & Co., in a statement.

“Working with well-known adventure activist Johan Ernst is a great way for our brand to get involved, and the new limited edition of the Astronomia Everest is really special.

The Astronomia Tourbillon Everest features Jacob & Co.’s double-axis gravitational tourbillon. To further hark back to the world’s tallest mountain, the face has been made with tiny transparent buckets of actual water that Nilson collected from both the North and South Poles. Mounted at the center of the timepiece is a piece of rock from Everest.

This marks the first time that the Astronomia has been painted with Super-LumiNova on their hands, so it is legible even in darker conditions.

According to Nilson, “The Astronomia is the only watch I’ve ever had people ask me about while I am wearing it, so we will be starting conversations that hopefully will lead to change. This special edition will spread the word about the fragility of our planet.”

The Jacob & Co. Astronomia Everest watch is available now for US$884,800.
