Apple is expected to unveil its first Apple Silicon laptops – those with chipsets made by Apple instead of sourced from the likes of Intel – next week.
The event will take place at 10 PM on November 10 (UAE time). It follows rumours that Apple would unveil the new devices in either its September or October events that saw the introduction of new iPads and iPhones respectively.
Apple teased the event using the popular phrase, “One More Thing” which was used last to introduce the iPhone X.
It seems that Apple wanted to give its new generation of laptops its own special event. The company first revealed that new Macs would arrive in 2020, during its developer’s conference.
Why is Apple switching from Intel to making its own processors? Well, it has been using its own chipsets in mobile devices for years now, and Apple has long-touted the benefit of having both hardware and software teams under the same roof.
It says the move to Apple Silicon in its own computers will give them a performance boost.
The new Apple MacBook is rumoured to launch with a 12-inch screen, ARM Mac processors (suing a new nanometer process that should make them faster than ever before). While the first laptop is expected to be a standalone device, Apple will be incorporating the new Apple Silicon chips into all new computing products – including laptops and desktops – in future.
Along with Apple Silicon, it is thought that the Cupertino-based company will reveal its next-generation Mac operating system macOS Big Sur. It is also thought that Apple will unveil a cheaper MacBook Pro – but sources now believe this is the same Apple Silicon MacBook that Apple will be unveiling anyway.
In other news, the new iPhone 12Pro Max arrives this week. Here’s how to get your hands on one.
