Will Vin Diesel delay new Fast & Furious because of coronavirus?
There’s only one thing that scares Vin Diesel (and it certainly isn’t an outbreak of COVID-19). It’s the thought of the world not getting’s its annual fix of all things fast and furious.
In many countries, entrance to cinemas and other large gatherings have been restricted. But that’s not going to stop a man like Vin Diesel. F9 is due to come out in May, and a silly little thing like the coronavirus isn’t going to stop that.
Speaking to USA Today, Vinny said there will be no more delays to F9.
"I won't fault anyone in the world for saying, 'You guys are stupid for releasing this movie right now,” he said.
"[But] we need movies now more than ever. We're already in a very interesting time where cinema and the cinematic experience is so threatened. So, yes, put it on record we're going to show up.”
"I love to show up for the audience and for the fans because God knows how much they've showed up for me. I'm crazy. I'm begging Sony to let me go to China, even now. And you should see everyone's faces like, 'You're going alone, buddy!'"
Vin Diesel was keen to point out that perhaps a new Fast and Furious movie is exactly what the world needs as it struggles through a global pandemic.
"Maybe the higher thinking is not to just focus on the box office, but know that we're all one world and we all have to get through this together."
Marvel has also said the outbreak of COVID-19 will not delay its next Marvel film. Black Widow is currently schedules for release on May 1.
