Etisalat is reportedly adding the penalty effective immediately

For all those in the UAE, you’ll now have to be sure to pay your internet, phone and TV bills on time. If you don’t, you’ll have to pay a reconnection fee.

If you pay past the due date, Etisalat will charge a reconnection fee of AED 26.25 and suspend services. They’ll also dock your credit score, Khaleej Times reports.

“If the payment is delayed beyond the due date it may result in services being suspended. A charge of AED 26.25 (inclusive of VAT) may be applied for reconnection of services,” Etisalat said, in a statement to Khaleej Times.

Etisalat’s post-paid bills are generated on the first of each month with a due date on the 15th of that same month.

“Payment of bills by the due date is very important to maintain a good credit score with Al Etihad credit bureau,” the statement continued.

If you have your bills on auto-pay, of course, this won’t be an issue, unless there is some issue with the payment.

Du, however, has said they won’t have a reconnection fee, but outstanding bills do need to be paid within a 100-day cycle.

“Our team reaches out to customers through various channels to remind them to clear their outstanding bills. In case of non-payment, outgoing calls are barred and broadband services are suspended after 21 days, mobile-hybrid plans are suspended after 26 days, mobile and landline services are suspended after 40 days and all services are deactivated after 100 days,” du said in a statement to Khaleej Times.

“Throughout the process, our team strives to enable a simplified user experience and consistent communication to drive transparency and deliver a seamless customer experience,” said the statement.

This sounds like it’s effective immediately, so if you had a bill generated by the first of this month, pay by tomorrow to avoid this fee.
