Netflix has a live-action Conan The Barbarian series in the works. The franchise – which is based on the 1932 character created by Robert E. Howard – will see its streaming screen debut in 2022.
Over the years, Conan has been adapted for various audiences. The original fantasy series became a major film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1982. It was then re-made in 2011, starring Jason Momoa.
Netflix’s new series will be one of the highest-profile adaptations of the Barbarian, and an obvious attempt to capitalize on the success of other successful fantasy series such as The Witcher, starring Henry Cavill.
Netflix confirmed the deal via press release, saying that it had partnered up with Conan Properties International to draw ideas from everything from adaptations of the character, to books, films and TV. According to the release, Netflix is currently looking for a showrunner for the series.
In other news, did you see that Daniel Craig and Cary Fukunaga are partnering up for an official No Time to Die James Bond podcast? The six-part series will give fans ‘never before seen’ access to the cast and crew of Craig’s last bout as superspy 007.
