Hublot has chosen to honour its 40th anniversary as a watchmaker with an update on its heritage Classic Fusion line.
The Classic Fusion XL Trio now comes in an extra large 45mm case. Naturally, it also comes with a few contemporary upgrades that those who purchased the original back in 1980 can surely appreciate.
That new case is offered in three different materials – grade five titanium, zirconium-sintered black ceramic, and yellow gold.
The new edition has a minimalist dial (just black lacquer save a date window at the three o’clock position). Unlike the original, which was powered by quartz, the new Fusion XL Trio comes powered with an in-house HUB1112 automatic with a 48-hour power reserve.

“Hublot has always been a fearless and pioneering brand, and this is no less true in 2020,” it said via statement.
“The Brand’s creation of a gold watch on a rubber strap in 1980 broke with conventional codes and laid the foundations for its own vision of Haute Horlogerie. To mark its anniversary, it has reinvented its 1980 Classic Original, an iconic example of its disruptive approach.”
All three versions of the Hublot Classic Fusion 40 Years Anniverary edition are now available through this website. Prices start at US$8,300.
In other news, Jaeger-LeCoultre just introduced the Master Control – a watch that dates back to 1992 and refers to the brand’s ’1,000 hours control’ certification (where the entire watch, not just the movement, has been thoroughly tested). The watch was announced at this year’s Waches & Wonders but is soon to be available in Middle East boutiques.
