His initial target was to raise 1000 pounds

Dabirul Islam Choudhury, a 100-year-old Muslim man in the United Kingdom, has raised over $207,000 for those affected by COVID-19. Are you wondering how he did that? He walked laps in his 260-foot-long community garden while fasting for Ramadan.

The BBC reports that Choudhury, from St Albans, challenged himself to walk 100 laps of his garden during the Islamic holy month.

He says he was inspired by World War Two veteran Captain Sir Tom Moore, who raised nearly £33million for charity.

The funds raised will go the Ramadan Family Commitment (RFC), a charity set up by Channel S in the UK that calls itself the “voice of British Bangladeshis across the world.” The RFC is affiliated with Bangladeshi organisations and other charities such as Islamic Relief and Muslim Aid, according to Arab News.

He said to the British Asian News: “I am so happy that my friends, family and community have got behind my effort to support it in a positive way by donating 324% of the initial figure. This has inspired me to carry on for the period of Ramadan which is another 26 days. I am very pleased of all the support I am receiving and can confirm that the current amount that has been raised is £3,292 in the past twelve hours and I thank everyone who has contributed to this cause with their generous support”.
