Careem and Uber’s cheapest ride options, CareemGo, and UberX will no longer be available in the UAE. Both services will stop this Septemeber.
Careem and Uber have long been popular not only around the world, but in the UAE as well. Quick, and easy to book for those who wish to use public transportation, with several price options to choose from. So why would they both stop their most economical services?
Both services, CareemGo and UberX were originally planned to be short term pilot services. The Road and Transport Authority ( RTA) decided to put both services to an end.
“UberX and Careem Go were introduced as short-term pilot e-hailing services for customers seeking an economy option. All this was done to compare and evaluate existing and new e-hailing services in the city and check on the feasibility of such technology and services in the market,” said an RTA spokesman to The National.
Though the end of affordable services by both, Careem and Uber, might seem like bad news, the good news is that finding transportation in a quick and easy manner at an affordable rate is still possible. Careem has recently launched a partnership with the RTA. They have created Hala, a joint venture where you can now book a local taxi through the Careem app.
