Uber is expanding its latest ideas, a host of new services around the world points towards Uber going more futuristic than ever.
Remember the days when Uber was a simple rideshare app with a few Toyota Priuses? Those days are loooong gone. The tech company (yes it’s a tech company, not a car company) is now making strides in the mission to make us all feel like we’re in Back to the Future 2 (the one with the flying cars).
In a series of announcements, Uber revealed that Uber Copter is making its name in yet another major city – New York. Uber Copter in NYC will be offered in Manhattan, south of Houston Street, going to JFK International on weekdays. Tickets will be one-way and cost $200, given out only to the top Uber clients.
Whilst the whole Uber Copter thing, which is also in Dubai, may sound a bit gimmicky for now, it actually acts as a stepping stone towards actual flying cars. Uber envisions helicopter trips being replaced with autonomous electric flying cars.
Uber Air is said by the company to be the future of airborne travel. The Air Taxis will seat 4-5 and allow you to bring some luggage aboard too.
The real question is who you tip if you have a good experience in one of these autonomous Air Taxis.
In other news, Uber also announced it’s expanding its conversation-free rides. Users nationwide will now be able to request car trips in which they won’t have to talk to drivers, allowing riders down time “if you need to respond to emails or are in the mood for a nap,” according to the company.
