Sustainability continues to play a huge role in the watch industry, and after releasing recycled straps earlier in the year Breitling has announced another step forward – sustainable and recycled watch boxes.
The new watch boxes are made entirely of plastic PET bottles and will start shipping with the brand’s watches starting early 2021.
The box is made from polyethylene terephthalate, which itself can be entirely recycled. Everything from the fabric to the pins that hold the box’s shape can be fed back into the ‘rPET’ program, to be used again.
Using this sustainable material isn’t just to help save the environment, as the new watch box can be folded flat for storage or traveling. That means no more bulky single watch roll.
Breitling has already reduced its environmental footprint with a smaller watch box, as well as reducing the number of packing elements. According to the brand, it has reduced transport-related CO2 emissions by 60 per cent with help from the new box.
Keeping in mind that some customers prefer classic packaging, Breitling will still offer its traditional wooden box by request (however, those clients will be ‘encouraged’ to make a donation to SUGi, a charity that helps to restore ecosystems.
