Original vintage Zenith El Primero models are particularly popular at auctions, making them very hard to get hold of.
Fortunately, Zenith is helping out dedicated collectors by releasing a limited edition Chronomaster, inspired by the original El Primero chronograph. The new watch dubbed ‘Chronomaster Revival Luberty’ is a blue-dialed El Primero with a 37 mm tonneau case.
The Liberty Revival isn’t an exact recreation of the original. However, aspects have been directly taken from the 1969 model. The case is an exact copy, and it fully captures the funky vintage style of the late 1960s.
The dial is a slight deviation from the original (the sub-dials do not overlap like on the original) but they still translate the vintage feel.
The Caliber 400 El primero movement is, of course, a modern take on the original. But it does remain faithful to the movement that powered the 1960s version. It comes with a 50-hour power reserve.
Beyond the case and movement, the new model comes with a sapphire crystal caseback (the original did not have a see-through back.
Only 150 of these Liberty Revival models will be made available, making them a little bit easier to get your hands on one over the original at auction, but still not easy.
