If you think Hublot’s Meca-10 table clock looks like something you’d make out of a Meccano playset, you’d be right.
The Meca-10 was directly inspired by the toy, and has now been supersized so you can see the groundbreaking design up close and personal. The table clock uses the same skeletonized structure as its wristwatch counterpart, which lets you see exactly how the movement works.
The clock itself measures 20cm by 17cm and its case comes in two versions; one is an angular take with a ring of satin-finished steel and transparent plastic composite, and the other is black PVD with bridges coated in black on the back.,
Much like its wrist-worn counterpart, the Meca-10 comes with a notched crown at the 3 o’clock position which is coated in rubber. And like the wristwatch, it comes with a ten-day power reserve.
The clock was put together in part by L’Epee manufacture – the Swiss workshop that is known for creating grand table clocks.
“We have managed to reproduce the unique features of our Meca-10 movement on a larger scale,” said Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot, in a press release.
“This feat of engineering was achieved thanks to the concerted effort of the teams from both Hublot and L’Epée. In this way, we are charting a new course for the hallowed tradition of clockmaking.”
The watch will soon be available from Hublot for US$50,000.
