The Tourbillon watch’s face was inspired by a tennis racket

Rafael Nadal and Richard Mille have been in cahoots for ten years now, and to celebrate RM has pulled out a cool US$1 million dollar tourbillon.

The suspended tourbillon is tough and light. It can withstand forces of up to 12,000 G’s (which is a world record) and the dial design was inspired by the tensile strenght of a tennis racket. The watch weighs just 30 grams.

“After 10 years of partnership, and having spent time with Richard’s teams, I’m still fascinated by the talent, passion and unrelenting quest for excellence that are the hallmarks of the brand,” said Nadal in a statement. “Only a few people in the world are capable of achieving such a level of technical prowess.”

The mesh dial was created with interwoven strings. The case it crafted from a single block of grade 5 titanium, which is then sandblasted. The TitaCarb body (Richard Mille’s proprietary material) is actually a mix of carbon fiber and titanium.

Only 50 pieces of the RM 27-04 will be produced, and sold exclusively from Richard Mille boutiques. It can be yours for a cool US$1,050,000.
