Swiss luxury watch brand Oris has released a brand new model in partnership with the Coral Restoration Foundation. World, meet the Carysfort Reef Limited Edition: a brand new shiny watch, of which three will be put up for auction to raise funds for the initiative.
The special edition – Oris’s first Arquis model to be produced in solid gold – has been cast in 18-carat, with its gold bezel lifted by a black and blue ceramic insert. The automatic watch is powered by a 28-jewel Oris 798base SW 330-1 movement, and has all the hallmarks of a classic dive watch: GMT function, three timezones and a heavy-duty water resistance up to 300m. Oris, a brand that has made something of a name for itself in the art of outdoorsy, purpose-built watches, doubled-down on dive watches (and other handsome sporty watches) in the mid Eighties, and has stuck to mechanical watches ever since. No quartz movements for Oris.
What’s more, there’s enough in the engine for 42 hours of power, all mounted on a rubber-coated blue leather strap. Which is far too nice to take into the actual ocean. But should you fancy a new trophy in the collection, move fast. The Carysfort Reef Limited Edition will have a very small production run of 50 pieces, all of them set to be released shortly at a price of £14,800.
