Esquire favourite, Berluti, has presented its inaugural signature house motif; the ‘SIGNATURE’ canvas. The maison’s new house staple was created by Van Assche, and is as statement making as it is refined. Inspired by the brands archives, the print fuses together the new Berluti logo, taken from the first pair of shoes Allessandro Berluti produced for the brand, and the “undulating strokes of the iconic Scritto motif”; which serves as a tribute to Olga Berlutti’s calligraphy art.
The black and grey print looks like an emblem for the brand that has been around for decades, instead of mere weeks, but this was a result of no accident; “My idea was to design a printed canvas that would look as if it had always existed in the archives”, says Kris Van Assche. “The more I think of the future, the more I want to anchor it in a historical context. This SIGNATURE Canvas creates a bridge between the past and the present.”
Applied to the strong, sturdy staples that we have come to know and love from the maison, the print has clearly been designed with both style and longevity in mind, however the bootmaker studs and oaky-brown leather finishes, ensure that the accessory styles are relevant to your wardrobe right now. We’ll be waiting with baited breath to see what other SIGNATURE canvas staples we can get our hands on, and, in the meantime, copping that hold-all with immediate effect.
