Way back in 1965, Japanese watchmaker Seiko unveiled its first-ever dive watch – dubbed 623MAS after its reference number.
Now in 2020, the company is celebrating the iconic watch’s 55th anniversary, with a special edition that is a faithful re-creation of the original watch. The new special edition re-creation features an updated 8L55 movement.
There are four new retro-styled timepieces, all of which come in a 40.5mm stainless steel case and different coloured dials. The indices, bezel, date window and hands are all taken directly from the original.
Seiko has brought the movement back up to date, with a modern upgrade of the original movement powering this diver. Under the hood, you get an in-house 6R35 automatic movement – with a power reserve of 70 hours.
As per usual, Seiko’s new diver watch will dive to depths of 200-metres and comes with Seiko’s LumiBrite lume to better see the watch in darker conditions.
The best bit? The price. This slice of Seiko’s watchmaking history is available from prices ranging US$1,000 to US$1,350 depending on dial colour.
