Kim Jones has injected a touch of English aristocratic class to the typically French DNA of Dior this weekend, with a star-studded men’s fashion show in Paris this weekend.
The label was at its most dandyish, with topcoats featuring velvet collars, trompe l’oeil grey minks coats and even a silver-embroidered opera coat (that will retail for around US$83,000).
Kim Jones dedicated the show to friend Judy Blame, the British stylist and punk iconoclast who passed away two years ago. Several of Blame’s jewellery designs were included in the show, including a chain with a coin bearing his head, as well as his signature pearl-encrusted opera globes.
“The world is a bit depressing at the moment and I wanted to do something celebratory” as a tribute to Blame’s genius, Jones said after the show.
“It’s really upscale and decadent and terribly couture, with luxurious materials like vicuna and beautiful cashmere coats imitating sealskin.”
“I like the thought that some of it look like it has been handed down through an aristocratic family,” Jones added.
The British-born designer said that he had always loved the “London twist on Parisian chic couture”, such as leather trousers with natty, re-imagined Chelsea boots.
Known for having one of the most impressive ‘Little Black Books’ in the business, Kim Jones’s show – held in a massive pop-up venue that dominated Paris’ Place de la Concorde – was glittered with celebrity names with the designers close friends Kate Moss, Cara Delevingne, David and Victoria Beckham, and Robert Pattinson, all dominating the front row.
