Young designers dominated at London Fashion Week

London’s men’s fashion week marks the start of 2020’s fashion season. And this year, it is all about giving young designers pride of place.

Notable among them is Bethany Williams, who is known for her commitment to social issues and environmentally friendly fashion. Then there’s Grace Wales Bonner, who wone the prestigious LVMH Prize in 2016.

This year’s LMFW saw runways loaded with all-over prints, combined with other motifs to create eclectic and playful looks seemingly bursting with energy.

As a general rule, hues were sober, with the exception of Williams who put together an explosive collection of colours and motifs.

Here’s some of the most striking looks from London Men’s Fashion Week 2020.

Bethany Williams

Bright vibrant hues and large technicolour motifs made their debut in Williams’ playful sports-wear inspired collection.

Edward Crutchley

Crutchley drew on multiple sources of inspiration, mixing all sorts of retro-tastic characteristics such as this oversized fur coat worn with check trousers. Ultimately it was an exuberant exercise in exuberant fashion collage.

Paria Farzaneh

The Iranian designer used motifs from her roots to pattern her modern, sportswear-inspired collection. The results are both traditional and modern at the same time.

Hussein Chalayan

A bold take on winter-wear, Chalayan put functionality in the spotlight creating ultra-chic outerwear strong enough to brave the elements. Of course, each piece is also generously decorated with all-over prints.

Per Gotesson

A rock (you might even say grunge) collection that mixed denim with leather, as well as another wide range of fabrics. Very oversized.

Wales Bonner

Bonner drew inspiration from the music of the 1970s, and featured highly tailored pieces alongside a number of looks that celebrates the designer’s unique British-Jamaican heritage.
