For Spring Summer 2017, English actor Matthew Goode — best known for his role in The Imitation Game alongside Benedict Cumberbatch — fronted Pal Zileri’s new season campaign, a mix of colourful style and contemporary tailoring.
Shot outdoors by German photographer Dylan Don, among the multi-coloured walls of Muralla Roja in Calpe, Spain, the collection presents a mixture of 3D textures and volumes as well as shiny and matte effects. This is brought to life by the sun-soaked walls and graphic lines of the compound. Aside from the classic Pal Zileri prints and tailoring, Matthew Goode’s effortless style gives the collection a dynamic feel.
Esquire caught up with Goode to discuss his experience of working with the brand.

Esquire: What first attracted you to the collection and this campaign?
Matthew Goode: I think the aesthetic behind the collection was something that really attracted me. Its elegance exuded a traditional Italian style that makes fashion such an essential characteristic in Italian culture. I’ve always believed that you can’t embody the image of any campaign without having a genuine affection towards it, so when I saw the collection for the first time I immediately wanted to be a part of the campaign.

Did the shoot prove a challenge?
Well, yes and no. Obviously it was more physically challenging than the usual shoots, especially with the intense heat. But it was a challenge I enjoyed because of this. And it was also fun to try out some parkour, I must say.
Was it easy to get distracted in such a beautiful location?
Muralla Roja is such an incredibly unique location and was perfect for what the shoot was trying to evoke. It complemented the style that inspired the collection. I was going to say that the environment was a distraction to the work, but I think that would be the wrong word. I was more engrossed in the location than distracted by it. The contrasting colours were spectacular. It was just so beautiful to be there.
What is your favourite piece from the collection?
For me it’s hard to pick a favourite. There are so many items that I loved and I couldn’t single out any one piece.
Are you happy with the result?
Seeing the final product, I am extremely proud of what we have achieved. Dylan has created the perfect medium for the collection to be conveyed through and I am very happy that I could help him. I really believe that we have done justice to the collection.
