In more than one way

Okay, we get it: you’re melting. We’re melting, too. The world is actually melting.

But please, spare a thought for those still obliged to wear a suit in such preposterous climes – men like Armie Hammer on the red carpet (and your best mate who works in DIFC). Though instead of sweating it out in a two-piece, make like the Call Me By Your Name star to keep cool on every front.

At the Straight White Men opening night in New York, Hammer played the metaphorical cucumber by doing one simple thing: losing the tie. Not in the hooligan at a wedding way, but more so in the ‘air tie’ way – the fashion world’s name for keeping your buttons tight without the chokehold of a patterned silk tie/noose.

Better yet, it’s a way to pivot from tried-and-tested tailoring without breaking the dress code. Just ensure your shirt is of the crisp white variety.

Granted, the air tie won’t beat the backdrip, nor will you suddenly feel comfortable and calm in the heat wave. But it will slightly lessen the torment, and it’s a move you can use year-round in a place like the Middle East.
