Fresh off the success of their collaboration with streetwear brand Trapstar, PUMA has now paired up with Staten Island design duo, Dee & Ricky Jackson for the second time with a collection combines the whimsical world of Dee and Ricky, with PUMA’s own more traditional style.
Born and raised in New York City, the brothers, famous for previously collaborating with the likes of Marc Jacobs and Pepsi, spent their early years exploring the city’s streets from the subway their skateboards.
A lot of their designs are unsurprisingly influenced by this upbringing and the colourful street art and people they encountered along the way. For their second collection with PUMA, Dee & Ricky have recreated that sense of the city with pieces inspired by a mix of the iconic visual language of Massimo Vignelli’s ubiquitous subway map and the influence of notorious graffiti artists.
One of the most unique pieces is the brothers’ re-design of the classic PUMA Basket, having refreshed it with a playful and innovative upper finished in twisted grind print textile and a Subway map-influenced colour scheme.
The PUMA Basket Dee & Ricky NYC also features embroidery prints over the upper and is available in orange suede – a sight that is sure to stop traffic. The playful pallet that features throughout the entire collection highlights Dee & Ricky’s sense of fun and makes the sneaker a good addition to anyone looking to add something unique to their street style.
The Basket Mid x Dee & Ricky BigA is a slightly different take on the classic mid sneaker and even features removable Velcro patches. The style is also available in turquoise blue suede with gold leather confirming it as another stand-out item from the collection.
