Nutrition and exercise are essential to being healthy and maintaining mental wellness

Finding a balance between performance and mindfulness is often an ongoing struggle for many. As fitness experts, we preach to our clients the importance of having a 360-degree approach to wellness, improving performance and development, taking into account how all areas of life impact overall wellbeing and success.

The pace of life seems to be ever-increasing like a childhood game of “crack the whip”, threatening to fling participants in the human chain out of play if they lose their footing. Many of us focus on our career while compromising other aspects of our wellbeing. Remember, we are multidimensional beings and work at our best when we feed our whole selves and do so consistently. This includes not only our career but relationships, self-care, interests and passions. We can often lose ourselves in daily pressures and forget to address the bigger picture. This is where the support of health and wellness professionals, such as myself, and programs come into their own and can be tremendously helpful in creating a firm foundation.

To thrive rather than just survive, we need a variety of supportive techniques to balance proper nutrition, a commitment to fitness, self-care, rest and mindfulness, continued learning and evolution. Furthermore, we are all on a personal journey with different passions, objectives and life demands.

Finding a balance between performance and mindfulness is not a cookie-cutter approach. Wellness programs and individual support from professionals means a tailored approach to hit target areas of improvement, results, fit into schedules and ensure it is enjoyable at the same time.

So, what should one look for when reaching out for support?

Surround yourself with those who can develop your powers of expression, enhance your body’s capabilities and discover something new that ignites the senses. Nutrition and exercise are essential to being healthy and maintaining mental wellness. Furthermore, for many, mindfulness is often a component missing from the toolbox. The time we dedicate in a facility or with an expert to help us on our journey to overall wellness must also cultivate self-awareness and emotional intelligence so we can make better choices. This could be anything from performing arts, learning a new skill to meditation – the options are endless.

The pursuit of excellence is propelled in partnership with respect for oneself. We have to continually up our game and raise the bar which we set for ourselves.

Remember, the best athletes do not hesitate to lean on professional organizations and individuals to stay at their peak; it is always a mark of strength and wisdom for one to seek guidance and advice that leads to positive and fulfilling actions.
