Cheering, screaming and a crowd of people are all associated with stadiums.
While that statement is a fact, it is different for Wörthersee Football Stadium in Klagenfurt, Austria.
Wörthersee Football Stadium is a peaceful and quiet place where one could truly admire the beauty of nature. Though it is an actual stadium, with seats and a huge pitch, it is right now home to a 300 trees. Basically forming a small forest surrounded by seats and concrete.
Why is there a forest in the middle of a football stadium? The concept was created by Klaus Littmann. His aim is to draw attention to climate change and deforestation. The unique concept was inspired by Max Peinter’s drawing “The Unending Attraction of Nature”.
The stadium forest, FOR FOREST, is temporary however. It will be moved and replanted towards the end of October on a nearby site near the stadium.
The forest is made up from several species of trees including Maple, Alder, white willow, common oak, amongst others. People are welcome to visit the site for free, every single day of the week untill October 27.
