All of us have been self-conscious about weight gain during this pandemic but Will Smith feels no shame as he reveals his stomach and it’s clear. He’s put on the extra pounds like us.
Taking the pandemic by the love handles, the 52-year old actor unzips his jacket as he exposes his body for all to see on Instagram. “I’m gonna be real wit ya’ll – I’m in the worst shape of my life.”.
The comments section embraced this brutal honesty as other celebs such as DJ D-Nice commented “Living your best life.”
Fellow actor Guillermo Garcia stated “Enjoy the dad bod with pride! Let’s end… the carbs discrimination.” British artist Sonna Rele emphasized this sentiment by saying “You’re Will Smith!! You can be in whatever shape you want”.
Social media can create a photo-shopped, picture perfect image of what we should look like when we see celebs and other “successful” people with washboard abs and rippling muscles. It’s almost as if every other person is a personal trainer/ social media influencer.
As much as these fitness models are “healthy”, it isn’t healthy for us to measure our success with theirs. These posts help us normalize weight gain as it can affect all of us and there’s nothing wrong with it. We’re told to be different and to express ourselves but how can we do that if we’re always trying to measure up to someone else’s expectations or standards?
We can’t define ourselves based on a couple of numbers on a scale.
And as we all look at how we can self improve while lockdown restrictions begin to lift worldwide, Will’s next journey will be one of physical and spiritual betterment.
“This is the body that carried me through an entire pandemic and countless days grazing thru the pantry. I love this body, but I wanna FEEL better. No more midnight muffins…this is it! Imma get in the BEST SHAPE OF MY LIFE!!!!! Teaming up with YouTube to get my health & wellness back on track. Hope it works!” wrote Will on Instagram.
Will Smith, known for his starring roles in I Am Legend, the Men in Black film series as well as the hit television series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, will surely make his YouTube series about getting back on track physically just as must watch as everything he’s put out.
