The Moroccan national side just pulled off a stunning hat-trick, with three players starring in adidas’ new campaign to celebrate the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. Featuring Imane Saoud, Élodie Nakkach—and a cameo from Azzedine Ounahi—it’s yet another sign of the rising star that is Moroccan football.

While the tournament kicks off on July 20—Morocco open against Germany four days later—the film takes us to the streets of Morocco, with Saoud and Nakkach showcasing their skills and passing at lightning speed—assisted by the new X Crazyfast boots—from street to pitch. Eventually, the mesmerising passing attracts the attention of Azzedine Ounahi—whose breakthrough performances at the 2022 World Cup saw Morocco become the first African side to reach the semi-final stage. Finally, a Nakkach volley is so hot that it burns a hole through a rug being used as a makeshift goal.

Part of a series of films ahead of the 2023 Women’s World Cup that fall under the creative banner of ‘Play Until They Can’t Look Away’, adidas is using all its star power by uniting a global family of legends and advocates of the women’s game. The campaign welcomes a star-studded lineup that includes David Beckham, Leon Goretzka and Ian Wright, actor and football fan, Jenna Ortega, as well as Argentina’s World Cup hero, Lionel Messi.

“The football world has experienced a remarkable transformation, with women’s football now receiving the incredible support it deserves,” says Imane Saoud, who also plays for F.C. Basel in Switzerland. “However, there is still a long way to go on this journey. Tournaments like the World Cup present a valuable opportunity to increase awareness and inspire the next generation of young women footballers to embrace the sport.”

Nakkach, who also plays her club football in Switzerland, for Super League side Servette, agrees. “I am beyond excited for the upcoming Women’s World Cup, where women from around the globe will come together to showcase their unparalleled talent, unity, and love for the beautiful game. It’s a monumental event that will undoubtedly captivate audiences and further elevate women’s football on the world stage.”
