Cricket’s richest tournament will be played from September 19 to November 10

The Indian Premier League (IPL) will be played in the UAE from September 19, tournament organisers have confirmed.

The 53 matches, including the final on November 10, will be played across Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.

With an adjusted tournament format, 10-afternoon matches will be played starting at 2pm (Gulf Standard Time) while the evening matches will start at 6pm. 

“Taking note of the prevailing Covid-19 situation in India, the IPL GC decided to stage the tournament in the United Arab Emirates,” Jay Shah, BCCI honorary secretary, said in a statement on Sunday.

Alongside the men’s tournament, the UAE will also be staging the Women’s T20 Challenge in November. The event will comprise of three teams with four matches to be played during the same week of the IPL Playoffs.

The UAE has previously hosted IPL games in 2014 when half the season was moved to the country due to the Indian elections.
