Khabib’s undefeated cousin makes his UFC debut in Abu Dhabi

As far as names go, in MMA there are few that strike the heart with same fear as Nurmagomedov does.

This, of course, mainly comes off the back of the fearsome reputation built by the undefeated (and current UFC Lightweight Champion) Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, there is now another Nurmagomedov in the MMA ranks: Umar Nurmagomedov.

The 24-year-old Russian fighter is Khabib’s younger cousin, who earlier this year signed for UFC having built a commendable 12-0 record in his young career. Like his famous cousin, Umar also comes from the Republic of Dagestan, with the majority of his professional bouts fought in Russia.

Umar currently competes at Bantamweight and has fought under promotions such as Pro Fighting League, Fight Star, Samara MMA Federation, Battle on Volga, and Gorilla Fighting Championship.

In his undefeated career, half of his victories have come decision, while five of his opponents were submitted and he also has a TKO finish to his name.

Similar to his older cousin, Umar was also trained by the late Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov (Khabib’s father and longtime trainer), who recently passed away due to effects of Covid-19.

In addition to Khabib and Umar, another cousin, Abubakar Nurmagomedov, also competes in MMA.

This month, Umar Nurmagomedov makes his UFC debut on ‘Fight Island’ in Abu Dhabi against Britain’s Nathaniel Wood on 25 July.
