Well, it’s official, folks. The boxing match dubbed the ‘Fight of the Century’ is over. The winner? The man who was an actual boxer. What a surprise.
Although a Mayweather victory was always likely – McGregor had only been training as a boxer for the last few months or so – the Irishman did put a better fight than expected. At least for the first couple of rounds before his defence quickly deteriorated into nothingness.

Referee Robert Byrd brought an end to the ‘Money Fight’ via a stoppage in the 10th Round, protecting both Mayweather’s undefeated streak and McGregor’s dignity in one fell swoop of his arms. This victory for Mayweather allowed him to surpass the 49–0 record of professional boxing Hall of Famer Rocky Marciano, further cementing the fighter’s reputation as one of the greatest of all-time.
McGregor might be feeling a little worse for wear after getting his proverbial bell rung, but as reigning UFC Lightweight champion and the recipient of what we can only believe was an extortionate sum of money – we think he’ll be doing just fine. With rumours of another possible upcoming bout with his former sparring partner and former IBF/WBA World Champion Paulie Malignaggi.

The fight may be over, but we’ll always have the memes to remember.
