Adidas banks on the midfielder for its new campaign

More than a few eyebrows were raised when Manchester United signed Frenchman Paul Pogba from Juventus for a world record fee of Dhs424 million.

“How can one footballer be worth that much?!” people cried from their sofas. Well, because in the global industry that is football, a club like Manchester United is buying so much more than someone who will add a box-to-box ability to its midfield. It’s buying a whole new generation of marketability. Sure, that is a astronomical fee, but the status and further global appeal that Paul Pogba brings to the club will see them cover the cost spent in next to no time.

The case in point, Pogba is the face (and name) of sports giant Adidas’ latest campaign “Sport 16”.

Builds on the belief that all athletes are #HereToCreate, Pogba stars in the new video, titled ‘Football Needs Creators’, where it follows Pogba’s journey beginning with shaping his own reality as a child in Roissey-en-Brie to his ground-breaking return to Old Trafford.
