Hey. You. Yeah, you. You, the guy who keeps checking his Twitter every five minutes just in case someone has retweeted his latest quip about the Euros. You, the guy who’s only brief foray into a gym was to use the free Wi-Fi. You, the guy who thought a kettlebell was something you use to order tea. You, the guy who is enamoured by yoga pants. Okay, that last one is probably applicable to society as a whole, however, if you really are the type of person who is more inclined to pick up a smartphone than a dumbbell, then maybe it’s high time you downloaded Nike’s newly redesigned Nike+ Training Club App.
Updated in order to cater to both male and female users, Nike’s new app combines everything you loathe about the gym (hard work and exercise) with all the instant gratification you love about social media. If you ever needed an adequate push into the world of fitness then how about the notion that a global community of athletes will be able to track all of your workout progress? Wouldn’t doing those last two burpees be a hell of a lot easier knowing that your family and friends are watching?
Remember when you used to play in the school football team and you’d suddenly turn into Ronaldinho as soon as your dad turned up to watch? The concept is pretty similar to that, except instead of half-time oranges you’ll be rewarded by your very own progress. Granted, it’s not that pat of approval from your dad which you’ve so fervently been seeking your entire life. But it’s close enough. Enhanced photo sharing and the addition of a real-time social activity feed also help ensure that your motivation levels remain through the roof, as sharing your progress with everyone you know you’ll have no excuses to give up.
Packed with over 100+ workouts that can be adjusted to cater to your specific needs, the NTC delivers an ideal mix of workouts that make sure you’ll be working at the optimum intensity without getting bored by a monotonous training program. The app works like a mini personal trainer in your pocket and will be able to adapt to your individual progress, work around whatever schedule you may have, and also guide you through every drill to make sure you’re doing it right. The NTC will even ask you how hard you found a session and adjust your next workout accordingly, which is more than we can say for most actual personal trainers out there.
Unique additions such as a weekly “feature athlete” allow you to mix up your workouts accordingly and experience a variety of different workout styles, and who knows: maybe one day you could be that featured athlete. Okay. It’s probably not going to happen. But still, at the very least you could become ‘that guy’ who’s got great six-pack abs and posts photos of proats a lot on Instagram.
The Nike+ Training Club App is now available for download on iOS and Android devices.
