Michael Jordan and Neymar Jr. aren’t sport’s most obvious dynamic duo, but they do share something special, other than an unhealthy obsession with the sport they love, that is. Nike has enlisted its superstars to collaborate for the first ever cross-over footwear between a football and basketball athlete on a pair of football boots.
Named the NJR x JORDAN the football boots will be the first to feature the iconic Jumpman logo, and additionally, the Jordan Brand will release a Neymar edition of their Jordan V Low with “Neymar” stitched inside the tongue.
The NJR x JORDAN Hypervenom football boot is inspired by Neymar’s favourite pair of Jordans, the Jordan V. The reflective tongue usually of the Jordan V has been replaced with a tongue-less Hypervenom in the form of a bold reflective Swoosh. The Jordan print is integrated into the soleplate with the Jumpan logo underfoot as well. The laces have the initials of Neymar Jr.’s son “DL” a long with the icon of the Brazil flag. The number 10 appears on the left boot, and 23 on the right, paying homage to the number of both legendary players with another Jumpan logo appears on the heel.
At a time when every athlete seems to have their own shoe line, this is a pretty exciting move that could have serious ripple effects. Having two legends collaborate to create boots that represent the best of both champions is definitely an innovative move on Nike’s part. And if making people feel confident wearing its products is the aim, it doesn’t get any better than each legend on each foot.
