Uber has just increased its fares due to the recent fuel increases in the UAE which saw the cost of petrol increase by 13% earlier this month. The commonly used Super 98 petrol now costs AED 4.15 per litre compared to AED 3.66 last month and Special 95 now costs AED 4.03 when it used to be AED 3.55 in May.

The company mentions that this revised fare is to help their drivers continue to have sustainable earnings whilst thousands of riders can continue to move around the city comfortably.

Earlier this year in March, Uber also sent out emails to customers about increasing their prices due to rising fuel costs while again explaining it was also to support their drivers. At this time, the Uber Select charged AED 2.57 per kilometre before being increased to AED 2.64. Now that price has gone up to AED 2.85.

When VAT was introduced to the UAE back in 2018, it was stated that transport would be exempt from it, however “marketplace services” such as ride-hailing apps would not be which prompted the company to increase the price of their total trip costs by 1.7 per cent.
