The block in New York where Christopher Wallace – aka The Notorious B.I.G. – called home is set to be re-named in his honour next month.
Widely-regarded as one of the greatest American rappers of all time, Christopher Wallace was killed at 24-years-old. Now, following what would have been his 47th birthday, his very own foundation has come together to honour his life and career by having a street named after him.
His foundation announced the block he grew up on, the stretch of St. James Place between Gates Avenue and Fulton Street will be renamed Christopher Wallace Way during ceremony on June 10th.
“Honoring Biggie [Notorious B.I.G.] symbolizes more than just one man,” LeRoy McCarthy, who spearheaded the initiative, told Rolling Stone. “It symbolizes a culture. It symbolizes a borough. It symbolizes a people, and hip-hop is worldwide.”
Other memorials to the artist have taken place in the soon to be Christopher Wallace Way, on Bedford Avenue and Quincy Street, artists Scoot Zimmerman and Maoufal Alaoui painted an enormous mural to the rapper dubbed “King of New York”. Murals also adorn the store where he once worked.
