- Perhaps only Doctor Strange himself could’ve predicted this one as John Wick soars up the box office, finally overtaking the MCU powerhouse.
- Avengers: Endgame has only managed to stay at the number one box office spot for three weeks as John Wick has come in all guns blazing
- Liongates’s third Jon Wick film made an impressive $22.6 million on Friday, and is now on track to over double that it’s opening weekend
- Endgame’s winning streak sets it comfortably as one of the most profitable films in all of history, behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens
John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum has knocked the Avenger’s off the top spot.
Its $22.6 million taken in on Friday from 3,850 screens has dethroned Marvel as the top box office film. John Wick is also projected for a $56 million opening weekend.
People tend to think that sequels are never as good as the original, but John Wick is one of those rare cases that seem to disprove that.
Wick’s third time on the big screen has already almost been doubly as profitable as the opening weekend of the franchise’s previous one. The new film also stands as Liongate’s greatest success since the Hunger Games finale with Jennifer Lawrence.
It’s unlikely the team over at Marvel is going to lose sleep over losing the top spot.
By now, Endgame is predicted to have a domestic total of US$771 million, while that sounds hefty, it’s actually only second place in the record books, with Star Wars: The Force Awakens hoovering up nearly a billion dollars as its domestic total (maybe Marvel should learn how to use the force for next time).
John Wick’s latest film has proved not only a win for the team financially, but critically as well as the film boasts an ‘A’ ranking on CinemaScore on its opening day, as well as a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes according to the audience – that’s a far higher score than Endgame.
