What is Jais Sledder?
Jais Sledder is an alpine coaster that can reach up to 40 km/hour, with each rider strapped in with their own braking system—so it can go as fast as you desire.
Here’s the official description:
“The advent of the sled is not entirely known. Sweden and Norway recorded various early kicksled races during the 15th century. The modern sport of sledding originated in St Mortiz, Switzerland, in the mid-to-late 19th century, where wealthy vacationers adapted delivery sleds for recreational races. Typically sleds were developed in areas with much winter snow and used as transportation for people and materials. Early designs included hand-pulled, dog, ox and horse-drawn versions. Ancient Egyptians are thought to have used sleds on the desert sands for transporting construction materials. The adrenaline-provoking sport was added to the winter Olympic Games by Fédération Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Tobogganing (FIBT) in 2002,” says the website.
“The Jais Sledder sits comfortably on a low-slung track. You’ll reach up to 40 kilometres per hour as you hurtle down the Hajar mountain range swerving through glorious panoramas with views of the spectacular coastline. The speed seems amplified ten-fold because you are sitting so close to the ground. The fully-controllable ride takes about eight minutes to cover 1,840 exhilarating metres of hairpin curves and undulating waves,” it continues.
What else is coming to Jebel Jais?
In the near future, Jebel Jais will be getting the first dedicated paragliding site in the Gulf called Jais Wings, as well as a giant swing called, you guessed it, Jais Swing.
There will also be expansions to the Bear Grylls Explorers Camp that opened in 2020, as well as expansions to the highest restaurant in the UAE, 1484 by Puro and the rooftop lounge The View by 1484.
Also coming are a pop-up hotel called the Earth Altitude that includes 5 eco-accomodation units and a swimming pool, as well as Cloud7 Camp Jebel Jais, a glamping experience that also focuses on sustainability and has 30 accomodation units.
Coming at the end of the year is Basecamp Jais, that will have more affordable accommodation as well as its own leisure hub with cultural experiences, yoga, and more.
Looks like we’re all going to be spending a lot more time on Jebel Jais!
