Thinking of travelling this summer? Get vaccinated first.
That’s the official advice from the UAE government, which came from a press briefing last night.
Dr. Farida Al Hosani, the official spokesperson for the UAE health sector, said that you should have taken both doses in order to travel, otherwise travel should be avoided.
“People planning to travel outside the country have been advised to avoid crowded places, wear masks at all the time and to maintain physical distancing, regardless of the Covid-19 protocols applied in those countries,” she added.
“We also advise people to wear masks continuously while using any means of transport, including planes, cars, buses, etc.”
Al Hosani also noted that more doses of the vaccine aren’t beneficial, and go against doctor directives.
“We advise everyone to adhere to the advice of doctors in order to ensure their health and safety,” she said.
More than 71 percent of the population has been vaccinated, 91.8 percent of those eligible.
The vaccine does not prevent contraction of covid-19, but it does reduce infection rate, hospital admissions, intensive care rates and drastically lower the death rate.
More reason to rush to get vaccinated is that the much-discussed more contagious Covid-19 variants are in the UAE, and the recent uptick in fatalities is 94 per cent unvaccinated.
For those who are vaccinated, the UAE now has 26 destinations to travel if you are vaccinated. Read more here.
