Well, this is embarrassing.
After intense speculation on social media and in whatever the COVID-era socially distanced version of water cooler conversation is across the city, the Dubai Police have put the theories to rest: there is not a wild jaguar lurking in the shadows of Dubai’s The Springs 3 area.
It’s a cat.
It’s a pet cat.
It was cat sized. It wasn’t even a big cat.
The level of extra of people on social media sometimes, we swear…
After an ‘extensive examination’ of the area in which the animal was sighted, wildlife experts have found zero evidence that a jaguar was ever on the loose.
The Dubai Police have said that the animal sighted in The Springs 3 area was a “domestic cat” and not a wild animal.
“The animal was carefully analyzed and experts have fully determined it was a domestic cat,” said the Dubai Police in a statement.
Residents were once again told to be cautious when sharing information on social media as spreading misinformation and unnecessary panic within the Dubai community is illegal.
A video of the animal went viral across the world, despite the fact that it was obviously just a cat.
