Falling satellite? Space debris? World record stunt? Something strange happened on Sunday evening…

Ok—what the heck was that?

On Sunday evening, people across Dubai saw something seemingly fiery appear to fall from the night’s sky. It could be seen from areas around 311 at around 9 pm, with many wondering what they were witnessing.

Videos started to circulate around social media in Dubai, with many speculating about what they were witnessing in the video. One showed multiple figures begin to show in the sky.

“Is it a satellite falling?” speculated one person on social media.

Others postulated that it could be aliens, or a UFO falling to earth.

One person thought it may be the Transformers, possibly locked in a battle with the Decepticons. That person was most likely the most wrong, but we respect the effort.

Others with less imagination thought it could be a failing drone.

Aerials (2016)

It wouldn’t be the first time that someone has sighted an unidentified flying object, or in this case unidentified falling object, in the Dubai skyline, with many stories popping up over the years of unexplained phenomena.

An Emirati film entitled Aerials, set in Dubai in 2016, postulated what would happen if aliens invaded the emirate. And what a film it was.

Perhaps the most likely explanation is that it has something to do with Global Village’s final day of season 25, in which the park attempted the last of its 25 Guinness World Record titles.

Global Vilage sent out a release earlier on Sunday, May 2 that said they will attempt to break the highest altitude firework display in partnership with Skydive Dubai. Perhaps the height of the firework explains why it appears almost like a shooting star.

Whatever it was, it was certainly the talk of the town Sunday night.

And who knows, maybe it was aliens after all…

If so, let me be the first to say: I, for one, welcome our new alien overlords.
