Saudi air carrier Flynas is now flying directly between Riyadh and the historic city of AlUla in Saudi Arabia.
Flights began last Wednesday. The route is run using the A320 aircraft, the latest addition to the carrier’s fleet. The airline will be operating two weekly flights, Wednesdays and Saturdays, between the two cities.
The plane is specially designed with Arabic calligraphy as part of a “Year of Arabic Calligraphy” initiative with the Kingdom’s Ministry of Culture.

Upon its arrival at AlUla International Airport, the aircraft was received by a delegation on behalf of the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) and a number of airline’s affiliates.
“AlUla is a place like no other in the world and we encourage residents of the Kingdom to experience their unique culture and heritage now while they have the destination to themselves,” said. Phillip Jones, Chief Destination Management and Marketing Officer at RCU.
The flights are part of an initiative in the Kingdom to raise AlUla’s profile as a historic destination, with a push internationally to come.

He added: “Weare preparing to open up to international tourism and cement AlUla’s position as a globally significant UNESCO destination, but with a modern and future-focused take on tourism. We are working on connecting the culture of the past with the possibilities of future, to present a world-class boutique destination to the world.”
