French designers MACA want to use this flying car to create a Formula 1 type championship with flying cars

If French design firm MACA has its way, 2023 will see several teams compete in races using flying carcopters.

It just unveiled its new manned flying hydrogen Formula 1 car, that is capable of hitting speeds of 300kph (in theory). The flying motor was revealed at this week’s consumer electronics show by MACA, which is helmed by ex-fighter pilot Thierry de Boisvilliers and former Airbus executive Michael Krollak.

The flying racing league would reduce carbon emissions produced by traditional combustion engines, along with the excitement that comes with racing flying cars.

The carcopter that was shown at the electronics show was just a 2.5 meter scale model, powered by six electric engines. The final carcopter however, will weigh a little over 500kg and be fitted with hydrogen fuel cells and tanks.

MACA expects a working prototype to takeoff by the end of this year, and then will test the flying car on Formula 1 circuits.
