Ramadan 2021 is set for April this year. Here’s what you need to know

The Holy Month of Ramadan is expected to begin in just six weeks, on April 12, 2021.

The prediction comes from renowned Arab astronomer Ibrahim Al Jarwan, a member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences. Of course, the above dates are subject to a moon sighting.

Ramadan 2021 is expected to begin at 6:31pm UAE time on the 12th, making Tuesday April 13, 2021 the official first day of the Holy Month.

Each year, Ramadan moves forwards by 10-11 days which will lead to something rather interesting in nine year’s time: the year 2030 will have not one, but two Ramadans.

That comes from Hassan Ahmed Al Hariri, chief executive officer of the Dubai Astronomy Group to Gulf News.

“The solar calendar and the lunar calendar run separately from each other, and are different. The solar one is fixed with the sun, while the lunar calendar is always 11 days shorter. So having two Ramadans is a natural result of having two different calendars,” Al Hariri pointed out.

“Calendars were invented by humans so we could use it as a benchmark and to count the time. People should see the two Ramadans as a natural thing,” he said.
