It has been hit hard by the pandemic

MGM Holdings – the co-owners of franchises like James Bond and The Hobbit – is reportedly looking to flog its entire studio and film library. 

The studio has a market value of around US$5.5 billion, and the entertainment giant’s biggest shareholder has just as Morgan Stanley to begin a formal sale of tis assets. 

This isn’t the first time MGM has flaunted the idea of a sale; but it appears the COVID-19 Pandemic and the shut-down of cinemas across the world might have been the final straw. 

Currently, MGM has a librabry of more than 4,000 titles and 17,000 hours of television. That includes franchises like James Bond, The Hobbit, the Rocky movies and series such as The Handmaid’s Tale and Vikings.
