The technology company is citing new battery-technology will herald in the Apple Car

Apple is wants to begin production on a new breed of electric, self-driving vehicle as early as 2024.

The technology giant has been working on some type of car project since back in 2014, but with almost six years of silence it was thought that perhaps the work was going into its CarPlay technology.

However, thanks to a report from Reuters we now know that Apple’s work on a proper vehicle are progressing nicely. Apparently, the company is working on a brand new battery design that would ‘radically’ reduce the cost of batteries, meanwhile increasing the vehicle’s range.

According to the report, Apple is suing a ‘monocell’ design that will make the batteries both more power and size efficient.

Apple is said to be looking to partner with a manufacturer to build the vehicles. Currently, it is working with outside partners for car components, such as LiDAR sensors (that appeared in this year’s crop of iPhone Pro models).

Bring on 2024.
