Designed to be comfortable in zero gravity

Virgin Galactic has revealed that Under Armour will be making the spacesuits worn on the first rocket-powered test flight from its Spaceport in New Mexico.

The non-pressurized clothes are designed to look and function exactly like suits that fly “regularly at over three times the speed of sound into space and back.”

Virgin Galactic unveiled its regular crew suits earlier in the year, however these pilots suits are different in that they come with black on the sides and on the knees, along with black not blue boots.

The suits themselves are relatively lightweight, and are produced from ‘flight-grade’ fabrics that are both robust and strong.

Under Armour said that the clothes were designed for comfort – whether while you are floating around in zero G or pushed back into your seat during the rocket-powered boost phase. The clothes will also help regulate body temperature, through the various stages of the flight.

The suits might be worn as early as this Friday, December 11.

“I’m very much looking forward to wearing my own spacesuit during New Mexico’s first human spaceflight later this month and then many times in the future as we share the wonder of space with our future astronauts,” said Virgin Galactic chief pilot Dave Mackay.
