Movies will still be a little bit different come 2021

Warner Bros. entire 2021 slate of new films – including titles such as ‘The Matrix 4’, ‘Dune’ and ‘Suicide Squad’ – will be getting joint streaming and cinema releases.

That means you’ll be able to watch some big movies at the same time as theatres, in your very own home.

This is the same as how Warner Bros. have chosen to release ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ on Christmas Day. In 2021, films will air at the same time on HBO Max as they are in cinemas – where they will be available for 31 days. After that, films will continue to play in theatres until the films once again come back for home entertainment services.

The release is the studio’s plan for ongoing confusion in the theatre business, in response to the global pandemic.

“We’re living in unprecedented times which call for creative solutions, including this new initiative for the Warner Bros. Pictures Group,” WarnerMedia chair and CEO Ann Sarnoff Sarnoff said in a statement.

“No one wants films back on the big screen more than we do. We know new content is the lifeblood of theatrical exhibition, but we have to balance this with the reality that most theaters in the U.S. will likely operate at reduced capacity throughout 2021.”

The films that will be affected are below:

The Matrix 4,
Dune
In the Heights
The Many Saints of Newark
The Suicide Squad
The Little Things
Judas and the Black Messiah
Tom and Jerry,
Godzilla vs. Kong
Mortal Kombat
Those Who Wish Me Dead
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It
Space Jam: A New Legacy
Reminiscence
Malignant
King Richard

This shouldn’t change much for viewers in the Middle East. HBO Max is currently only available in the US and in certain US territories, meaning the streaming service is blocked outside of the United States.
