Sony has announced that its next-generation console – the PlayStation 5 – will cost US$500 (AED1,850) when it arrives in November. There’s also a digital counterpart, which is cheaper at US$400 (AED1,500).
Both versions of the PS5 will be available in the UAE on November 19 (a week after the global launch on the 12th).
But here’s the issue; Sony has said it is dialling back production on its next-gen console due to parts shortages because of the pandemic. That will make getting your hands on a PS5 a bit of a challenge.

In the United States and Europe, PlayStation is allowing those wanting to pick up a new console the ability to pre-register. However, no such luck for those of us in the Middle East.
There is still no option to pre-order the console via PlayStation official – however you can register and get to the front of the next-gen line via the UAE’s Geekay Games.
We reckon Sony PlayStation Middle East will follow suit with its own pre-order/pre-registration at the beginning of October.
One think to note; Sony wants to ensure that the right people get the right consoles (they are actively discouraging people from buying them to sell them on, for example). Knowing that, if you do want to pick up a PS5 then make sure you have an up to date PlayStation account (PS Plus subscription is a bonus) and be sure to include that in your registration form.
We will update this story as and when we know more.
