See you later, Mark Zuckerberg. Elon Musk just overtook the Facebook founder as third-richest person on planet Earth.
The SpaceX founder saw his stock surge as Tesla split its stock, allowing more people to pick up a piece of the electric automaker.
Musk is now worth US$115.4 billion, versus Zuckerberg’s paltry US$110 billion.
Elon Musk can now count himself the third richest person on the planet, right behind Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos.
Musk has seen his wealth rise quickly over the past year – he has made US$88 billion this year alone. Tesla stock is up more than 500 per cent.
Tesla now has a market value of US$464 billion market value, which now exceeds that of even Wallmart – the largest company in the US by revenue.
But it’s not just Musk who is doing well out of all this. Jeff Bezos has become the filthiest of the filthy rich, and Mark Zuckerberg also joined the centibillionaire club.
