NASA is tracking a huge asteroid that is the size of two Egyptian pyramids.
The space rock (which has been dubbed a Near-Earth Object – or NEO for short) is between 120m and 270m wide, and between 100m and 250m tall. That makes it double the size of Egypt‘s landmark.
According to scientists, the asteroid will come close to earth but pose no threat provided it stays on its course. And let’s hope it does just that.
NASA says there are a few things which can actually change an asteroid’s orbit of the sun, including passing by other planets. According to NASA, ““Occasionally, asteroids’ orbital paths are influenced by the gravitational tug of planets, which cause their paths to alter.”
“Scientists believe stray asteroids or fragments from earlier collisions have slammed into Earth in the past, playing a major role in the evolution of our planet.”
That said, at this stage NASA has ruled out any chance of an impact with Earth. Let’s hope it stays that way.
