Burgers, burgers, and burgers. Oh, and pickles too

We’ve taken a break this week from sampling some of the city’s new-fangled fine-dining deliveries, to go back to basics.

While French fine dining and grilled Peruvian meats are all well and fine, sometimes you don’t want a flash meal. Sometimes, you want a juicy burger, a big order of fries and a fat chocolate shake.

Which is we’ve turned our stay-at-home sights on one of Dubai’s top burger joints, Pickl. Which now offers delivery via the ‘roo.

Pickl Review: Burgers, burgers and more burgers

Last year Pickl took the burger scene by storm, serving some of the most inventive burgers the city has ever seen. The menu itself is on the light side, with small selection to choose from – but there’s nothing light about the dishes.

Pickl likes nothing more than loading up its burgers and fries with delicious ingredients, including huge crunchy wedges of fried chicken, beef bacon and slathering’s of secret sauce.

And speaking of sauces, this place takes pride in the fact that it makes everything from scratch – no store-bought burgers sauces here. And, as its name suggests, it also makes its own pickles.

Pickl Review: What’s the vibe?

Pickl is known for its Chicken Sando burger; a massive slab of fried chicken slathered in special sauce and wrapped in a potato bun. It also has monthly specials, with last month being the Big Hot Murray (named after the eponymous comedian) that featured a double smashed patty, double cheese, a heavy dose of North Carolina hot sauce, fried onions, pickles, a chilli nacho crumb and a ‘Bag of Jeff’ – the brand’s secret spice mix.

But it also features all the staples a good burger joint should have; single and double cheeseburgers, fries and the all-important shakes.

Pickl Review: How’s the food?

You’d think concept burgers had been done to death – the humble hamburger has been around for yonks, after all – but Pickl does well to carve out a niche in over-the-top but very tasty food.

Burgers get the basics right (well cooked, good bun, lots of cheese) but the devil is in the detail; the additional toppings and the sheer amount of sauce do well to elevate Pickl beyond your bog-standard burger joint.

Pickl Review: Verdict

Pickl is well above your average burger joint based on sheer innovation alone, and the burgers are top notch.
